RUDE 20/04/2012

CLUB RUDE WITH VINTAGE VINYL. PLAYLIST FOR THE SESSION ON FRIDAY 20th APRIL 2012, WITH SMILER, MICK, DAN, JIM, and MARTIN guesting, AT THE QUEENS ARMS, GREAT KNOLLYS ST. READING IN THE REAR CLUB ROOM. NEXT SESSION ON FRIDAY 18th MAY. MORE PLAYLISTS AT www.jimz.biz Well our first ever Friday session, which is going to become a regular date now on the third Friday of each month. For our first “weekend starting here” session Martin guested with more of his Ricky Tick delights, and he pops up again with his 60’s Soul Time night at the Queens, the weekend before the next rude on Saturday May 12th. It seems as if the change of day has somewhat increased the attendance, and the finishing time-as in spite of trying to close down the session twice, it continued until nearly 1.00, that’s almost six hours of vinyl delights. Most of the tunes were written down, except the last hour or so, when the dance floor was somewhat full, and the scribers concentration lost! BCNU-Hopefully for the May session. 60'S SOULTIME 14/04/2012

60’s SOUL TIME –WITH THE ORIGINAL VINTAGE VINYL-PLAYLIST FOR THE SESSION ON 14/4/12, AT THE QUEENS ARMS, GREAT KNOLLYS STREET, READING, WITH MARTIN, BRIAN and JIM. NEXT SESSION ON SATURDAY MAY 12th, 7.30 to LATE.

Well for an evening of the authentic sound of a 60’s soul discotheque, by the gentlemen who were there playing the very tunes, four different venues for this night in as many months has been a bit of a nightmare. However let’s hope the superbly refurbished back room at the Queens, is going to be our final resting place! So the second Saturday each month is the date to note. This could be the start of something small ! Thanks to all those who turned out for the session, which sounds a delight on the playback recording. TRIP 07/04/12

The TRIP SESSION 85-WITH VINTAGE VINYL at MILK-previously the afroba-READING. PLAYLIST FOR THE EASTER SPECIAL ON APRIL 7th 2012. MORE PLAYLISTS at www.jimz.biz click on jimz playlists. NEXT SESSION A WEEK LATER THAN USUAL ON MAY 5 th., but normally on the last Saturday, with the one following on MAY 25th……
Well we went with the session a week later than usual because I was at the NEC, with a memorabilia fair, but the Mighty AC, did the session for me on the last Saturday, and a great job he made of it, if the playlist is anything to go by. His next night TRACKS and GROOVES is at MILK on 26 th., APRIL, with playlists on the T. and G. facebook page.
So I usually try to sum up the session, but how can you describe a night that goes from spiritual jazz to meatloaf!
I intended for an easter “theme” and got a few on, but generally the night, which was a very busy one, just wandered off as it usually does into all sorts of directions. The plot always has been to play soul related music from the 40’s to the 90’s, but we often wander off into a little rock/indie, when the mood and the crowd take us (too many years of me running a mobile !). I had a box of hip hop close to those waiting to be served, so they dug thru’ it and that lead to a lot of requests going on. The recording of the session sounds ok, and you can sense the vibe during the last two hours, when I really was flinging them on, and not talking quite as much “as usual”
Tim has, in a few short months, taken the bar to a whole new level, and it’s great to see the events board on the rear wall full of gigs and happenings.
So onward and upward, BCNU-Jim
DONALD BYRD---CRISTO REDENTOR, first with an easter theme from a great 60’s blue noter.
DAVID AXELROD---A DIVINE IMAGE/THE SICK ROSE/WARNING PART 2, with a 1960’s Radio London jingle “go to the church of your choice overlaid”. Then three from the man with a lot of spiritual life in him, as well as beats!
AIR---DIRTY TRIP, anything with trip in the title.
GRANT GREEN---JOSHUA FIT DE BATTLE ON JERICHO, back to the bible and another great 60’s blue noter.
GENE HARRIS---SUMMER, THE FIRST TIME, just love this 70’s blue note funkjazzer.
FREDDIE HUBBARD/AL JARREAU---LITTLE SUNFLOWER, summer is on the way so on goes this much played classic.
MARVIN GAYE---WHAT’S GOING ON, well!
BONNIE TYLER/MIKE OLDFIELD---ISLANDS, no idea why this got on, other than jess has a thing about bonnie tyler and I cannot go on playing “total eclipse”.
GARBAGE---MILK, our new “theme”
McDONALD and GILES---BIRDMAN, THE REFLECTION, with the flintstones “you can’t go back in time” sample overlaid, superb reflective tune.
CHOCOLATE MILK---TIME MACHINE, another theme, with the lp sleeve to drool over!
PSYCHONAUTS---TIME MACHINE PART 2, needed a bit of a break, so fifteen minutes of this great mix-up goes on.
J. DILLA---DONUTS EXTRACTS, requested.
ORSON WELLES---I KNOW WHAT IT IS TO BE YOUNG, my theme?

DJ SPINNA—WATCH DEES-INSTRUMENTAL, don’t really play enough spinna.
SUNTREADER---ZIN ZAN, tried this one at tracks and grooves a few weeks earlier, great beats jazz from what appear to be a prog. band from 40 years ago.
RUNAWAYS---INTRO/LEVITATION, one I used to start my set with.
THELONIOUS MONK---CRISS CROSS, requested as an easter tune!!
TERRY CALLIER---LOVE THEME FROM SPARTACUS, a proper easter tune.
SAM COOKE---TOUCH THE HEM OF HIS GARMENT/THAT’S HEAVEN TO ME, two religious ones from sam.
ELECTRIC PRUNES---HOLY ARE YOU, and more from axelrod.
MARVIN, again
DIAMOND---THE HIATUS-REMIX, one of my all time fave “modern” hiphoppers.
GARBAGE, again
ALICIA KEYES---A WOMANS WORTH, for the ladies.
STYLISTICS---PEOPLE MAKE THE WORLD GO ROUND, have not dropped this original for ages, with quite a response to it.
LEON HAYWARD---I WANNA DO SOMETHING FREAKY TO YOU, for Ralph, not that I do!
SOUL SEARCHERS---ASHLEY’S ROACHCLIP, sampled by eric b. et al.
MADHOUSE---10, prince from his “jazz” lp.
WINSTONS---COLOUR HIM FATHER, the source of the drum and bass break.
GIORGIO MORODER---TEARS, nicked by shadow for organ donor.
MASTERS AT WORK---TRIBUTE TO FELA KUTI, request for some fela.
NU YOURICAN SOUL---BLACK GOLD OF THE SUN, our most played.
GOLDIE---INNER CITY LIFE, one I have not dropped for a while, classic.
SPANKY WILSON---SUNSHINE OF YOUR LOVE, requested, and up there with ellas version.
BOOKER T.---GREEN ONIONS, typical club rude classic.
MARKEYS---LAST NIGHT, and another.
HERMAN KELLY---DANCE TO THE DRUMMERS BEAT, more sampletastics.
BREAKESTRA---SEXY SUGAR POT, one I bought on my only ever visit to the states.
JURASSIC 5---IN THE FLESH, requested.
CARL DOUGLAS---KUNG FU FIGHTING, birthday request for alvin, with a little of delia derbyshires version of happy birthday either side of it.
MACEO AND THE MACKS---ACROSS THE TRACKS, jb related, and quite a lot of interest in it.
BILL WITHERS---USE ME, requested, and I went with the “live” version.
A TRIBE CALLED QUEST---MOTIVATOR, requested.
DE LA SOUL---A ROLLER SKATING JAM NAMED SATURDAY, always gets on, when the bar is full.
MOHAWKS---THE CHAMP, the most sampled ?
THE SLITS---I HEARD IT THROUGH THE GRAPEVINE, first bit of “indie”
THE SMITHS---PANIC, and another, where I usually hang myself.
A GUY CALLED GERALD---VOODOO RAY, great “rave” tune.
SHARON PRABHAKUR---MERE JAISI MEHBOOBA, bollywoods “tribute” to herbies rockit.
J. DILLA---MORE DONUTS EXTRACTS, requested.
VANILLA ICE---ICE BABY, from the good old mobile daze!
KRS 1---THE SOUND OF THE POLICE, requested.
MADLIB---SLIMS RETURN, great maddie bluenoter.
MF DOOM---ONE BEER, with marvel comics dialogue samples all over it.
ROB DOUGAN---CLUBBED TO DEATH, club classic.
MR. SCRUFF---GET A MOVE ON, andy’s “finest”
SYMARIP---SKINHEAD MOONSTOMP, requested.
SKATALITES---GUNS OF NAVARONNE, with a little more 60’s ska to follow.
TOOTS and the MAYTALS---MONKEY MAN, and another.
MOS DEF---BODY ROCK, requested.
PRINCE---LITTLE RED CORVETTE, requested.
APHEX TWIN---ANALOGUE BUBBLEBATH, requested.
RHYTHM IS RHYTHM---STRINGS OF LIFE, to pump up the following nights live techno session.
MEATLOAF---I’LL DO ANYTHING FOR LOVE, played instead of bonnie tyler to try to clear the bar!
NWA---THE SOUND OF THE POLICE, requested.
Then to finish the usual mix up of film/tv tunes, dr. who, a- team, ghostbusters, star wars, batman etc.
JACKSONS---NEVER CAN SAY GOODBYE, who sez!
ESTHER PHILLIPS---JUST SAY GOODBYE, 60’s club rude classic
BUGS BUNNY---THAT’S ALL FOLKS (except for bonnie tyler’s eclipse, which followed, but did not get recorded !)
The trip is a “jazzisnotafourletterwordandididnotgettoplaytheeastertunemottthehooplesrollawaythestone” production, 2012.
