TRIP 25/10/14

THE TRIP SESSION 116- THE NORTHERNMIDLANDSOUTHERNEASTERNWESTERN SOUL SPECIAL, WITH VINTAGE VINYL AT MILK, READING-25/10/14. LISTEN TO THE SESSION IN TWO PARTS ON MIXCLOUD-JIM B. DONOVAN

Well I had a few hesitations about doing a session like this at MILK, due to the nature of the
music being very dance related, and the venue not really having a “dance floor”. I need not
have worried, the dancers managed to create one! The whole idea was to celebrate the legacy
of Roger Eagle the first dj at the TWISTED WHEEL, off the back of the NORT*ERN SOUL
film. The first set was made up of the sort of music that Roger and myself any many others
were playing at the time, with Sonny Boy Williamson’s Help Me being the first ever tune
played at the Wheel. Peter Baker who was in for the night took over for an hour or so, and
made a cracking job, managing to play out of my very disorganised boxes. In some ways this
night was possibly a turning point for the many sessions I undertake at MILK, it certainly
had that little bit of fairy dust! I am however starting up again my SOUL TIME night shortly
at another venue playing similar music, with hopefully recordings popping up again on
MIXCLOUD. This one was a little “unbalanced” sound wise, due to me trying out a new
recording system. Anyway, I hope you enjoy this, it could be the start of something small-

NO ROOM FOR SQUARES-JAZZORIZIT ?-SESSION 77 WITH VINTAGE VINYL AT MILK, READING, 14/10/14. LISTEN TO THE RECORDED SESSION ON MIXCLOUD-JIM B. DONOVAN
Well a very quiet evening I am afraid, due to the night being put back for this month only by one week. Back to the normal first tuesday next month however. A little like last month not too much "proper jazz", but some great tunes that fitted with the lovely sound system in MILKS very old building. I started with a few sampled /classic tunes for a hour or so, then a short blues segment, with quite a lot of vocal tunes following. A short tribute to Joe Sample, and Carmen Mc Rae's current biggie followed, with Grant taking us out with Another Day In the Life.So ok you may not have been there but you can now listen back at your leisure.
