TRIP 31/07/2010

THE TRIP AT THE AFROBA WITH VINTAGE VINYL PLAYLIST FOR SESSION 64 -31st JULY 2010, WITH JIM. MORE PLAYLISTS AT HYPERLINK "http://www.jimz.biz" www.jimz.biz, and JIM B DONOVAN on Facebook.
Well another “interesting” session. The a-bar did not fill to capacity, but it remained nicely full for the most part of the latter part of the evening, and the vibe, the requests and the general chatting was great. I was a little more “apprehensive” than usual, due to an aspect that in reality is very positive. I am now being allowed to leave my spare equipment in situ, to spare me hours having to bring it in and out, which means initially that coming on August 26th., is another night called TRACKS and GROOVES, which the Mighty AC and myself are undertaking to compliment the trip. However the spare equipment is not quite up to my usual clobber, but basically it got me through the night, with a few problems like one styus going funny on me and odd bits of feedback where the levels were not quite right. Plus with a different mixer I am not able to record the evening without it picking up my chatting on the mike, so in future playback of the recording during the week will include moi chatting as well as the music, sorry!
The next session our annual “Sod the Reading Festival” night on AUGUST 28th., sees the return for “one night only” of my old afroba evening “NO ROOM FOR SQUARES”, which means that the night will be more jazz orientated than usual. Do not let this put you off, my interpretation of “jass” is very broad, as you can tell from some of the old playlists on my website. Also I have hooked up with the “Jazz in Reading“ organisers and they are including the night on their mailing lists, so who knows what the turnout will be like. If you only like pure trip type music-if there is such a thing- then at least come along to our new night two night earlier, but be bold and try them both!
The evening was dedicated to Harry Beckett and Rammell Zee, both very different musicians but both iconic in their own fields, they will be sadly missed. BCNU-Jim.
