NO ROOM FOR SQUARES SESSION 76, WITH VINTAGE VINYL AT MILK, READING, ON 02/09/14. LISTEN TO THE RECORDED SESSION ON MIXCLOUD-JIM B. DONOVAN. NEXT SESSION ON OCT.14 th, A WEEK LATER THAN USUAL.

Well a really lovely relaxed evening, (especially after saturdays "manic"
hip hop session) with a good attendance, and almost an extra hour of tunes.
Mostly jazz with a funky/ latin flavour to suit the mood, and little "proper
jazz", but with quite a lot of requests. Roy Ayers got quite a few plays due
to him appearing locally recently, and an attendee who used to come to the
sessions ages ago but moved away returned with requests for mucho Galliano.
I started the night with at least an hour of vocals, and took an "interlude
break" at Pat Metheney (the nights very long tune to allow me to have a chat
with attendees) No chatting on the microphone, until much later, but
obviously when I started!! Nice to hear Gabriel again, especially as I now
know it's a big carnival tune. Generally pretty much 70's/80's/90's with
only a few from earlier times, but that's the way it goes sometimes.
Enjoy-Jim.

TRIP HIP HOP SPECIAL AUGUST 30th 2014

PLAYLIST FOR THE TRIP SESSION 114-THE HIP HOP SPECIAL-MILK, READING, AUGUST 30th 2014, WITH VINTAGE VINYL.LISTEN TO THE RECORDED SESSION ON MIXCLOUD-JIM.B.DONOVAN. THE NEXT SESSION IS ON SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 27 th.
BCNU-Hopefully/Jim

IT REALLY WAS A PLEASURE TO UNDERTAKE THIS SESSION. ALTHOUGH SOME HIP HOP FEATURES IN A NORMAL TRIP EVENING, AN ENTIRE NIGHT IS UNIQUE. THE 'PLOT' WAS TO MOSTLY FEATURE OLD SCHOOL 80'S, BUT LIKE MOST OF MY NIGHTS I DID WANDER. THE FIRST 2 HOURS ARE PRETTY MUCH THE REAL THING WITH THEN A SHORT INTERLUD FEATURING CUT CHEMIST. IT¹S THEN BACK TO THE OLD SCHOOL WITH SOME REQUESTS AND SLIGHTLY LATER TUNES, BEING DROPPED IN. FOR ONCE VERY LITTLE CHAT FROM ME, AND IN SPITE OF THE BAR BEING VERY BUSY I DID HOLD IT TOGETHER FOR THE FIRST 4 HOURS OR SO, IT THEN DOES FALL APART SLIGHTLY. I FINISHED WITH THE MOHAWKS/ BONGO BAND, TO WHICH THIS GENRE OWES SO MUCH. THANKS TO CHUCK CHILLOUT-IN TOWN RECENTLY-FOR INSPIRING ME TO DO THIS. THE NIGHT WAS DEDICATED TO PRONE AND HIS CLASSIC BREAKS SESSIONS IN READING IN THE LATE 90'S. A LOT WAS MISSED, NO TUNES FROM TANYA WINLEY/ THE FATBACKS, OR PUBLIC ENEMY, BUT THE YOUNGER GENERATION FROM '79 DID GET ON. WHO KNOWS THIS COULD BE THE START OF SIMILAR EVENINGS. HAPPY LISTENING AND DO NOT FORGET PARENTAL
