TRIP 29/08/2009

the trip at the afroba, session 53, with vintage vinyl, playlist and ramblings, with jim-29/08/09.
Crazy mixed up or what!, another session that took this evening in yet another direction. I’m beginning to wonder how many different directions there must be left? What is great though is that I convince myself there is a bit of a plot to this night, often in segments there is not and jockeying the discs to suit is a little like improvising. The plot for this one anyway was to play a little less jazz for once, but to attempt to pay homage to Woodstock, with some classic 60’s rock to counter the Reading festival that was in town and was featuring zilch wrinklies. Also to quell the jacko mania that has taken over the decks the last few months to pay respects to Rod Temperton, he of mj composing fame, plus feature, and little did I know that we were going to be swamped by our brazillian friends, brazillian music inspired by the new Waxpoetics. We also overran slightly due to latecomers celebrating a birthday, you really must come earlier!, I’m on the steels of wheel from 6.30 to Midnight. Also big thanks for the applause at the end, but really its only some old bloke bunging records on, who refuses to be labelled a legend-honest. Next session is on SEPTEMBER 26th our annual autumn leaves night. More playlists at www.jimz.biz, bcnu- hopefully/Jim

RUDE 20/08/2009

CLUB RUDE-NOW AT THE BLAGRAVE ARMS, READING, PLAYLIST AND RAMBLINGS, 20th AUGUST 2009. WITH Smiler/Dan/Keith and Jim (who is responsible for this playlist and lots more!)
MORE PLAYLISTS/DETAILS AT www.jimz.biz
Well first up a big thanks to Readings Goths who gave up their regular Thursday evening at THE BLAGRAVE ARMS to let Rude return to the venue in some style, with only a weeks notice! The general vibe seemed to be that the venue was on par with the Coopers-whom we thank very much for letting us play there- and slightly more “intimate”, and with a little more room to shake your rump. The other bonus is that in future we can run on a little later than 11.00 if we wish, so lets see how things pan out. Also for the first time ever virtually all of the tunes were written down, over 90 of them, meaning yet more work for yours truly! I have now played back the mini disc recording about 4 times and it really does sound sweet, especially Keiths early set, and the “trend” towards a little more Atlantic/Stax material, which must be due to Smilers/Damiens ‘fluence with regard to the recently completed Fleurs book. We are also looking towards setting up another night Club Nitty Gritty at the same venue, with generally the same feel, so watch this space.
